Wayne And Shereese Engagement Session | Durham, North Carolina

When another photographer hired me to cover his engagement, two things immediately happen: 1. Excitement that another photographer admired my work and commissioned me to capture his important moment 2. after the initial excitement, the nerves set in :-).

On the day of the shoot, my focus was with the couple and working with them to capture their interaction with each other while highlighting the expressions of love and exchanges of affection between them.  I never met Shereese or Wayne before, so it was my goal to build a rapport on the day of the shoot where they will be comfortable with me, because without that connection I wouldn't be able to memorialize their special moment.  Wayne is a very down to earth guy and surprisingly we shared a great deal in common.  We both have a Caribbean background, we both grew up in The Bronx, we both have a passion for creating art through photography and we both practically moved to North Carolina around the same time, but we never knew each other until now.

Thank you Wayne and Shereese for allowing me to capture your engagement session.

She Said YES! | Alex & Remy's Engagement Proposal | Durham, North Carolina

I had the unique opportunity of capturing images when Alex surprised his girlfriend Remy by proposing to her on the day of their engagement shoot --- Remy was totally unaware of the shoot and thought she was on a romantic date with her sweetheart Alex.

These moments are very poignant and will remain part of the landscape of memories a couple will cultivate together.  A step toward building a life together is a momentous one and care and detail was given to ensure this proposal would always be fondly remembered.

I worked with Alex to come up with a few potential locations for the day of the proposal and in the end he selected the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, North Carolina.  We worked out the logistics and how to capture some candid shots without Ruby being aware of what was going on.  Alex hired Ed Stephenson a local Spanish & Flamenco Guitarist who serenaded the couple during the proposal.

On the day of the shoot I asked Stephanie Jackson to assist with video because in addition to the still images I really wanted to capture this incredible experience on video for the couple's family to experience and relive their moments with them.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s Themed Engagement Photoshoot

The shoot took place at Hamilton Scot Inn located in Cary, NC.

Inspired by Old Hollywood glamour and aesthetic; Caleb and Avonlea channel Paul Varjak (George Peppard) and Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) respectively in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.

The strikingly attractive couple was styled using wardrobe pieces reminiscent of 60’s era Hollywood, while still maintaining a contemporary and classic vibe.  The setting added the appropriate amount of vintage, comprising a quiet and potent mix of polished elegance and charm.

MUA:  Dawn Frischmann Losinger created a color palette that straddled the vibrancy of the 60’s and the modern look of today’s make-up application.

Hairstylist:  Shereese Cromartie styled the models hair using as her inspiration images of the leading actors in the movie.

Assistant: Carrie Fleitz did an awesome job with the video and provided much needed assistance.

Stylist:  Polymoniker researched old movie posters on the internet and reviewed the movie for styling ideas.

A themed engagement shoot is a great way to introduce wedding guests to a couple before tying the knot.  The engagement shoot augments the client’s comfort level in front of the camera with the wedding photographer; allowing the client and the photographer an opportunity to gain ideas on what angles work best for them; resulting in better pictures commemorating  the special occasion.  Couples are encouraged to show off their personalities with creatively-themed shoots.  Another popular reason for engagement photos are “save-the-dates” announcements.
